Rock the boat...err...vote!!!!

Hello readers of the "blog"!

It's funny, I was watching "Best Week Ever" and they went on a rant of "Quarter life", that new show on myspace tv and it's excessive use of the word "blog" and it made me laugh. It's cool to see the generation I'm apart of begin to be the archetype for entertainment and social standard legitimacy. I definitely feel the lyrics on our album touches on the whole "Quarterlife" peoples, especially "For A Lifetime". Give it another listen when you get a chance. . .

This all leads seemlesly into what we (Melee) have been up to. So recently we were asked to be involved in the Rock the Vote program, which is very exciting for us, and we got the chance to record a PSA (which will be up on our myspace in a week or so) today in LA ! And honestly, we've been so deeply immersed in Melee world, that it was refreshing to talk and reflect on something other than that. With that being said it was a little rough getting the brain going on what we wanted to convey haha, but it was great to get the opportunity to talk about an issue important to us.

This election is so vibrant and so exciting, that if you are not already registered to vote, hopefully it encourages you to do so. Theres so much diversity in the candidates running, from cultural to gender to religious affiliations. I really feel like there's someone for everyone. And at least at this point, its such an equal level, its hard to tell who will win.

In this election we all have a voice more than ever in history!! I feel that THIS, this, is our election! Look all around, these candidates want to hear what we have to say, they're practically begging for it. All over the internet....myspace..... youtube...so many more...they've teamed up with websites and means that we've defined! You dont need to be a lobbyist, or a wealthy supporter or a politican or have connections to be heard. We have the means to do so at our fingertips! We need to take advantage of all this, and become involved, and research, and figure out whats important to each of us, because there are issues that are important to all of us, from health care, to global warming to education costs, to war and foreign policy, that are all going to be things WE have to deal with. It's not about political affiliation, it's about who represents our human needs and rights, it's about getting involved, its about being heard. Our generation already controls advertising and marketing, video games, movies, the music industry, so why can't we control politics! We definitely can, and this time it's different.

For more info and to register to vote visit www.RockTheVote.com

We will soon be having a widget up on our website and myspace page that can register you to vote directly, so keep an eye out for that.

So back in Melee world!!! We just announced a little headlining tour, so check out our tour dates for more info on that. Everyone here in our camp has just been relaxing. We've been working on a Melee Movie Monday, featuring Chris' cover song idea, and I know he's been working on editing that, so keep an eye out for it! We also finished recording an original Christmas song called "Christmas This Year" which is actually going to be used exclusively for Japan's top radio station, J-Wave. So thats pretty exciting, and there is a strong possibility of it making an appearance on our myspace before the years over. And other than all that, we're just getting ready to enjoy some time off at home for the holiday and eat some shtuffing.

AND since I've shamelessly plugged Melee at times, I'm going to even the karma out by plugging another band. Check out this band called "Until June" www.myspace.com/untiljune. So so good. I'm currently loving the song "Sleepless". AND check out the band, Venus Infers www.myspace.com/venusinfers. They're cool, we went to go see them this past Thursday at the Distrcit Lounge. Good stuff. So ya, there you go, all is right in the world.

Peace
Love
Ricky

i'm glad to hear you guys are getting involved. i agree that this election is OUR election. i've never voted in the past because i've never really cared and also i trusted my people's votes. with all the problems we've been having i feel its time for me to vote and get my word out to help mold the right path.

anyways....good to hear you guys have good things ahead of you. can't wait for the headlining shows!!!

props for participating with 'rock the vote.' it's pretty depressing how people 18-24 have the lowest voter turnout rates in the united states. hopefully your guys' involvement will help motivate people in our generation to overcome apathy/laziness/etc. and make their voices heard.

and i too am really looking fwd to your headlining tour in january. have a good thanksgiving!

It is nice to hear that you are getting involved in the voting. The last presidential election was my first time to vote. I honestly had no idea what I was voting for. It's great that so many people are starting to educate the younger generation on voting (even if they can't vote yet). Now they will be better prepared in the future and have a greater chance of actually wanting to vote.

I love Until June they are so good. I'll have to check out Venus Infers

Ack! I loathe the word "blog". Despise it. It cheapens the literary worth of a journal, in my opinion. Because of that shortened cutesy abbreviation, people of the quarter-life age group (and those slightly below, like me :P) who should be writing at a college level or above think that it's okay to write entries that TaLk LyKe Dish. *sporks eyes out*

Not to mention that a blog sounds like something I'd cough up during a bad case of the flu...

Heh, was that a rant or what? Anyway, thanks for posting on Ricky's Road Journal, because seeing new stuff to read in my MySpace bulletin makes me happy. As does political activism.

Second-to-lastly, an exclusive track for Japan? Unavailable for purchase here? Woe. :( Don't force me to scrape it off your MySpace page, because I'd really love for my ninety-nine cents plus tax to go to you.

Lastly, a self-plug is not shameless when you have an entire freaking journal to dedicate to your crazy Melee adventures. And I'll definitely check that band out!

Negative one lastly, Rock the Vote = <3333! (That's a heart for each of you, by the way.)

Glad to see you guys are keeping busy and involved. :)

I used to be so involved in the political end of things, but since moving to UT I've been so out of the loop. I am registered to vote, though, and I will. I'm not sure any candidate is getting me really excited yet, though.

I hope the Christmas song will make an appearance on myspace being as I'm not in Japan.

BTW, listening to Until June. I'd actually heard of them before and think I listened on myspace a while back. But you are right - great music. I love it!! Going to check out the other band shortly.

See ya soon!

Because clearly I love having one-sided conversations with people I don't even know, I'm back for a second comment.

Just wanted to say that OMG. I love Until June's music! Thanks so much for the tip! They kind of remind me of City & Colour, except not so acoustic guitar-y. And they're an actual band. But I think I'm in musical love. Or maybe it's just lust, because Melee owns my heart. But still. Amazing.

And um, was I making this up, or was there a really random revelatory post up last week concerning a Third Eye Blind album cover? I went back and it was gone. You know you can't fool the RSS feed, right? The internet knows all!
